This project challenges the discriminatory place designated for women in various Jewish ceremonies in a patriarchal social structure. The textiles are woven in a shaatnez mixture forbidden by Jewish Law (halacha), and the garments are designed in the context of female archetypes. By deconstructing, changing, and breaking halachic taboos, an interpretation emerges that seeks to release Jewish women from the shackles in which they have been bound for thousands of years of tradition.
